GAMERella workshop 1

Lecturer: Jessica Blanchet from TAG Montreal

A workshop designed for people with beginner skills in arduino and basic electronics knowledge. The workshop will be in 2 parts. We will cover some simple sensors and how to get data from analog/digital inputs on the arduino. Then we’ll look at alternative ways to make switches and buttons with conductive thread, conductive fabric and muscle wire, which can be used like normal switches or in experimental game controllers.

Open for everyone but spots are limited, and people registered for the game jams are prioritised.

Residents and members at the film and games village (including Collaboratory members/partners), as well as participants at the GAMERella and Global Game Jams participate for free. Others pay 150 Sek at the venue (or 200 for both workshops).

How to make Text Adventure Games & Visual Novels with Twine.Twine is an open-source tool for creating interactive text adventure games. You don’t need to write any code to create a simple story with Twine. Twine is a great tool to make your first game and share it instantly online.Please download TWINE 1.4.2 from here for the workshop.

The theme of the jam will be announced at the start of the jam at 17.00/5pm Friday January 23. The jam ends at 17.00/5pm Sunday January 25.

Everyone is welcome, no matter what level of game design skills you have, gender etc. We create a safe environment to try out game making, we will also help out with finding a team to jam with.

Collaboratory makerspace

Come and try out various tech, crafts and things like 3D pen and brain sensors, play and make games, build stuff in the ninja challenges and do not miss the drone agility competition. We build the levels on Friday 23rd and run the race on Saturday 24th.

Beta the game

Beta co-founders Errol King and Patrice King from Hidden Level Games will hold a workshop for educators and other interested participants who want to learn how to use the game Beta in schools or other learning environments.

Beta is designed to support self-driven learning. Through their relationship with Beta, students will engage STEM and computer science concepts in a fun way. While Beta can be played alone, it is best experienced in a community! The curriculum provides educators with the structure needed to unleash the programmer within their students.

Hidden Level Games is a New York based indie game studio that focuses on developing experiences that enable creativity and empower players to become creators.

Learn Do Share

When: January 23- 24

Where: Gothenburg Film Studios, Polstjärnegatan 10, Make Change studio

Learn Do Share  Gothenburg theme is Future cities – youth powered change, addressing themes like participatory architectures, the city as test arena and playground, hacking for social innovation, maker culture, city planning and transportation, and experiential learning. The design for each event is created in all year-long dialogues with city planners, scientists, makers, educators, students, entrepreneurs, policy makers, etc., in order to make it as accessible, participatory and effective as possible. If there is something you wish to bring to the program, please let us know. We are trying our best to meet the needs of the participants; we involve your voice in the evolution of Learn Do Share. We see this event as a catalyst for further initiatives and bring the experience back on a yearly basis in many cities all over the world.

During the event, Collaboratory in Gothenburg will also provide you with a maker studio where you have the opportunity to bring your design, innovation, prototype, game or other art work, or build new things. Send info and space/tech requirements to info(at)storyarchitects.se with subject line, “maker studio” (you can write in Swedish too). There will also be workshops, drone competition and maker.ninja challenges.
